1. Nutritional Supplements and Stress

Are you stressed out? According to research, stress is caused by many different things, and can lead to many different types of illnesses and diseases. However, the best way fight stress is by "identifying the sources of stress in your life and finding ways to avoid them or reduce their impact." Sounds so simple, yet it may not be that easy!

Since many of us are thrust into stressful situations on a daily basis, we must either learn how to deal with stress, or find a means where it does not permanently affect our health.

According to the American Institute of Stress (AIS), "Some people find that listening to music, hobbies, volunteer work, keeping a daily journal of events and how they feel, laughter, playing with pets, taking short breaks or shopping help them to relax. Others find relief for their stress related symptoms from aromatherapy, nutritional supplements like chamomile, spearmint, kava kava, adaptogens and St. John's wort or even sitting under a pyramid." [1]

Since it's not always possible to avoid stressful situations, I prefer taking daily nutritional supplements, especially ones that protect the body from the damage that stress can cause. The Chief Science Officer of TriVita, Brazos Minshew, in his daily wellness report, wrote an article called "Stress and Your Health." I posted the entire article below so you can see how stress can affect your health.

Stress and Your Health by Brazos Minshew

There are four common causes of imbalance that affect our health:

  • Trauma
  • Toxins
  • Deficiency
  • Emotional distress

Stress triggers a flood of hormones that sacrifice healthy organs in order to solve the stress crisis. Chronic stress causes us to wear out and age prematurely.

According to the book, "Who Gets Sick?" stress is reducing the quality and quantity of life of most people in North America - including you! It strangles the joy and pleasure from your days and nights. It makes you miserable, and then it makes you sick. You become susceptible to diseases such as heart attacks, cancer and diabetes. Once you are sick, stress keeps you from responding as well to medical care. Yes, stress is a killer!

Know your enemy!
Stress is short for distress. Distress describes an unpleasant influence by forces outside or even inside your body trying to tear you apart; it can come from your environment, your body or even your thoughts.

Stress triggers the fight or flight mechanism. Your body will prioritize resources to meet specific demands of stress. In fight or flight, your body prepares to do battle or run away. Either of these actions will require fuel - and right now!

Where do you get that fuel? From organs you don't need at that moment to survive.

So, if you are being chased by a lion, you don't need digestion. Stress will take nutrients from digestion as fuel to meet this particular crisis. The same is true for other organs and systems: Stress will literally rob nutrients from your reproductive system, your bones, and aspects of your immune system, your nervous system and more - all in an attempt to survive.

Now, assuming you survive the stress, are the nutrients returned to those systems? No, not at first. They are taken out quickly and returned slowly, just in case there is another lion around.

Gradually, you begin to show signs of chronic stress that we call premature aging: your blood sugar becomes more difficult to control; your arteries begin to clog up with cholesterol; and your muscle and bone mass begins to melt away. Then, enzymes in your cells begin to turn off and caramelized sugars begin to damage your brain and nerves. You can't think and you have no energy. Your body cannot stand that kind of stress and it breaks down.

Fighting back
This illustrates why we need nutrients from food and supplements to combat stress. The more nutrients we have "on board," the less fuel your body will have to rob during a crisis.

The opposite of stress is homeostasis. So, while stress is constantly trying to pull you apart, homeostasis is constantly working to put you back together. Homeostasis is the priority process your body uses to combat stress. It requires nutrients to function. So, a key strategy for helping reduce the impact of stress is to take Healthy Aging nutrients (including a robust supply of Sublingual B-12) every day.

Rather than being just an isolated event, stress accumulates over time. A single stressful event can affect you for up to two years or more. Therefore homeostasis must be constant, relentless and dynamic in working to return you to a normal state. It must do this no matter which direction stress is pulling you.

Homeostasis is a very important process in our body and we need to support it in every way we can. Homeostasis encompasses all of our resources: our brain and nervous system, our immune system, our hormonal system and every other body function. Adaptogens support homeostasis in all body systems. Adaptogens are "non-specific" in that they help your body reclaim balance. Adaptogens are non-toxic at any level, so you can feel free to take an added serving of Adaptogen 10 Plus as needed in order to break the cycle of stress. A daily serving of adaptogens can help keep you calm and relaxed.

A specific target of stress is the thyroid gland. Specific proteins found in Energy Now! support healthy thyroid function when stress creates thyroid imbalance.

Healthy Aging nutrients along with Adaptogen 10 Plus and Energy Now! can help protect against the relentless stress we all face. We need nutrients and nurturing; these lifesaving resources are found in the 10 Essentials for Health and Wellness. Learn them and live them, and you will be able to resist the relentless killer: stress! ***END of ARTICLE***

2. Vitamin D

It's a known fact that vitamin D is an essential nutrient. Doctors from all around the world have concluded that vitamin D essential to promote healthy heart and brain function, relieve pain and inflammation, support strong bones, and also boost your mood. Researchers have also discovered that there's a link between vitamin D deficiency and bone loss in patients with HIV.

I believe the list will continue to grow, as more and more research is done on this all important nutrient. No matter what your situation is, it's important to make sure you're getting the proper daily amount of vitamin D from the best source available, like TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D.

The statistics are staggering when it comes to vitamin D deficiency. According to experts, nearly 80 percent of Americans are deficient in vitamin D. To me, that's just unbelievable! Why all the concern, because this leads to an increased risk for inflammation, heart problems, weak bones, unhealthy blood pressure levels, decreased immunity and memory loss; not to mention a major strain on our health care system.

If that news isn't bad enough, there are additional studies indicating a greater risk for abnormal cell growth in patients who are deficient in the sunshine vitamin. [1] In fact, during some of the studies conducted it's been found that up to 50 percent of subjects analyzed that were vitamin D deficient also suffered from serious health problems.

It's possible that you think you're getting enough vitamin D by eating foods "enriched" or "fortified" with vitamin D. However, foods like milk, cereal, margarine, pudding, and vitamin drinks may not be supplying you with enough of a daily dose. Even though these previously mentioned foods do have "some" source of vitamin D you may not be getting the right kind of vitamin D.

As mentioned previously, the proper vitamin D is needed to help fight inflammation and protect every cell in your body. And the vitamin D you get from sunshine could be your most effective weapon for maintaining a healthy body. But now the bad news; as you age (yes, get older), your body may no longer be able to efficiently produce adequate levels of Vitamin D from exposure to sunlight alone. It may be time to commit to taking a daily supplement of vitamin D.

What supplement should you take, and how much vitamin D is needed? Well, a lot of experts recommend an absolute minimum of 1,000 IU of vitamin D per day. And I've seen some articles that suggest taking up to six times that much for individuals over 50. So, that would relate to between 4,000 and 6,000 IU per day. Even the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves supplementation of up to 2,000 IU of vitamin D a day.

Now I'm not a doctor or even in the health care industry, but I do a lot of research and read a lot of articles. Before committing to any supplementation, always check with your health care professional first. If he/she recommends taking a vitamin D supplement, show him/her TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, and ask their opinion.

3. Energy and Nopalea

How's your energy level? Are you feeling tired and worn out even after a full night of sleep? Well you're not alone. There are many people who suffer from chronic fatigue, or lack of energy. Many people have even been diagnosed with what is called, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).

Even though CFS may be a serious condition, and in this article I'm not discounting that fact, but rather talking about people that feel they have a lack of energy. You know that feeling of sluggishness, or the unwillingness to get up and start your day full of vitality.

So what is energy and what can we do to maintain a high energy filed quality of life. I believe we have to start with a healthy diet, an exercise program, and faith in our loving creator. These three combined can increase your energy level, and give your the lifestyle you'd come to expect.

When it comes to our energy level, Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer, says it best: "Health only comes from healthy habits practiced every day." In his weekly wellness report, he explains the energy process and what you can do to live the life you've always thought possible. The complete complete article is listed below.

Got energy?
by Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer

Regardless of what complaint a person has when they visit their doctor, 85% of all patients complain of fatigue. It is one of the "Top 10" reasons for seeking medical help.

People feel tired. We need energy. So, where does energy come from? And, once we get energy, how do we keep it? Let me explain the process by which we produce energy and how we may form strategies to feel energetic every day.

The process of energy
First of all, there is a difference between having energy and feeling energetic. We produce a significant amount of energy even when we are asleep. Yet, most of us don't feel particularly energetic when we wake up. There are times when we may feel energetic and yet scientific tests actually measure less energy. A good example of this may be seen when a person uses a caffeine-based stimulant such as a cup of coffee or a soft drink. They may feel more alert. Yet, they have less mental energy and they typically score poorly on mental performance tests. That means they cannot really think as well and solve problems as well when they are under the influence of caffeine. More than that, the alertness that they feel comes at a high price: drinking caffeinated beverages will ensure that you feel more fatigue later. The energy that you feel is not real energy.

Metabolism
Real energy is a process of burning calories found in foods and releasing the energy contained within them. This is the process of metabolism. The word metabolism is drawn from a Greek word meaning change. Metabolism changes food into heat. Heat is a form of energy. Therefore, the first step in producing lasting energy is to eat properly so we will have enough fuel to keep our inner fires burning. Betalains, found in Nopalea, prevent these fires of metabolism from becoming fires of inflammation.

Metabolism is governed by hormones that originate in a region of your brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus determines your energy needs and sends this information to your pituitary gland. The pituitary gland (often called the Master Gland) translates these signals into hormones and sends these messenger hormones on their way to other various glands. The two prominent glands for energy production are:

Adrenal glands - The adrenal glands respond with adrenaline when the hypothalamus detects danger. This process is often called the "fight or flight" response to stress. Adrenaline sends your body into an energy spending spree where it virtually cannibalizes your organ reserves for all of their stored energy. The fires of metabolism are turned down. Your hands and feet get cold and your core body temperature may drop below normal. Even when we are not in danger, caffeine and sugar (as well as other stimulants) mimic this process and trick your system into releasing adrenaline. The adrenaline rush is very addictive but it robs us of true energy. So, the second step in energy production is to turn down the stress response. We do this with adaptogens: plants known to help us reduce the impact of stress.

The thyroid - The thyroid gland is responsible for regulating your body temperature by adjusting your metabolism. Two primary fuel sources keep the thyroid gland functioning properly: Iodine and Tyrosine. Iodine is a mineral and Tyrosine is an amino acid - a building block of protein. Tyrosine is considered a non-essential amino acid because we do not need to get it in our diet. We can make it from an essential amino acid (one we must get in our diet) called Phenylalanine (LPA). However, getting Tyrosine in our diets is not a bad thing; it means that we will use less energy making Tyrosine from LPA.

Nopalea is a good source of dietary Tyrosine and Energy Now! contains both LPA and Tyrosine to fuel healthy energy production. Energy Now! is a nutrient, not a stimulant. The ingredients in Energy Now! can help us feel energetic by supporting healthy metabolism.

Into the brain
Tyrosine and LPA fuel metabolism by supporting healthy thyroid function. Further, these important amino acids foster the sensation of energy and euphoria by serving as the building blocks for other brain chemicals, such as PEA and Nor-Epinephrine. PEA is the "hormone of love" and it is likely the reason why our energy is increased, our pain-perception reduced and even our appetite reduced when we fall in love. We want to support PEA metabolism to feel energetic! Nor-Epinephrine fuels the creation of energy in the brain and supports our nerves as we translate that energy into action.

To get energy from our brain to our body requires healthy nerves. Often, our metabolism is normal - our stress level is low and our nutrient reserves are high and still we do not feel energetic. The problem may not be as much in creating energy as it is in translating that energy through our nerves. Nerve health is supported by Vitamin B-12. People feel fatigued when they lack enough B-12 because they cannot transfer the creation of energy into the sensation of energy.

Conclusion
Health only comes from healthy habits practiced every day. Our bodies rely on nutrients and nurturing to remain healthy. Fatigue is a message from our body that something is wrong - and we need to learn to listen to our body to have energy and to feel energetic! **END of ARTICLE**

It is possible to improve your energy level, but it has to start with you. Nobody is going to do it for you! Start living a healthier lifestyle today! Start eating better. Start exercising. And most importantly, start asking God to give you the strength to take the first step and to keep you going on that path. I pray that you will take this information to heart, and start making a change for the better, a change you will not regret.

Mr. Minshew mentioned Sonoran Bloom Nopalea is his article. Nopalea helps to fight inflammation naturally, through betalains, a very effective anti-inflammatory fighter which is found in the Nopal cactus.

4. Nutritional Vitamin Supplements

The life expectancy of people has increased considerably over the last 150 years. To make sure that your senior years are lively ones I feel it's imperative that you lead a healthy lifestyle. This lifestyle should start with a balanced diet. It's also vital to get enough plenty of sleep and exercise. In my opinion, nutritional supplements play an important role in reducing the risk of disease as well as supplying the body with anti-aging nutrients.

Many of us have not lived very nutritious lifestyles in the past, and as a result, it may be taking its toll on your body and all around health. Is it too late to get started on the right track? Is it too late to improve your nutrient deficient body? Is it too late to make a lasting impression on those you love the most - your family?

In my humble opinion, some of our past lifestyle actions may NOT be resversible. However, we can, and should, have a positive affect on the people closest to us. Even though we may not be able to do anything about the past, we can do some about the future. This includes helping others around us not make the same mistakes.

Mr. Brozos Minshew, Chief Science Officer for TriVita, writes about this very subject in his latest Wellness Report. Read his complete report, and judge for yourself.

Are you nutrient deficient? Your parents can partly be to blame by Brozos Minshew, Chief Science Officer for TriVita

For the first time in recorded history, children born in North America today are not expected to live as long or as well as their parents. This startling trend may have its roots in the nutrition of our parents or grandparents. The trend continues through our generation. Truly, the "sins of the parents" are visited upon their children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.

How did we get into this predicament and what can we do to change the trend?

Poisonous fruit
Along with the advances in agriculture that reduced famines and starvation, the farming practices of the last century produced some pretty scary trends. For example, food grown in mineral-depleted soil has fewer nutrients to offer us. Food processed for increased storage is further reduced in nutrients. Flavor-enhancing additives, such as refined sugar, further impose a burden on our system. It is as if we are over-taxing our personal health resources and the "deficit spending" of this course is being passed on to our children.

Some scientists recognized this disastrous course 100 years ago. General awareness of the importance of nutrition has increased significantly in the past 50 years. However, commercial and other interests have kept the debate suppressed until recently. A landmark article was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) June 19, 2002. It defined the need for nutrients in disease prevention. Though it was met with resistance, this article clearly opened the door for debate while confirming the truth we have known for a century: A body deprived of nutrients and nurturing will be prone to disease, disability and untimely death.

Further scientific exploration into the link between low nutrient reserves, a shortened lifespan, increased disease and unhealthy children was published that same year in the European Journal of Human Genetics. It clearly detailed the link between poor nutrition in a person and the increase in disease in their children and grandchildren.

The "root" of poor nutrition has erupted into obesity, heart disease, diabetes and other diseases that extend through generations. Habits and practices of 100 years ago are bearing "fruit" in our children!

Solutions
With this knowledge, the discussion around human nutrition has never been more important. We simply must change our habits if we are to change our destiny. For example, we must select food grown in mineral-rich soil and endorse farming practices that support ecology.

We must also discipline ourselves to take our nutrients every day. By doing this, we increase the opportunity for having healthier children. If we are past childbearing, taking our nutrients daily will improve our health and give us the opportunity to "model" responsible behavior for our children and grandchildren. Healthier kids mean a healthier family, a healthy community and even a healthier species.

The power to change the trend is in the choices you make every day.

Wellavoh
Men's and Women's Wellavoh (wel-lah voh) is a multi-nutrient complex built upon the science of proper nutrition. Wellavoh is constructed to give you the nutrients you need today to help your body change the trend: the trend toward wellness. It contains the classes of nutrients we need to fill in the gaps left by poor diet and foods grown in nutrient-depleted soil.

Wellavoh is designed for adults and children age 10 and over. Take your nutrients every day and model healthy behavior for your children and grandchildren. Become part of the solution to declining health by making better choices in nourishing and nurturing your body today! ** END of ARTICLE **

Some of you may need a complete overhaul of your lifestyle if you want to live long enough to see your grandchildren. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and less on saturated fats plus the introduction of a more active lifestyle will go a long way. And, nutrient supplementation, to make up for the lack of nutrients in your body, is also a very important health decision.

Before taking any supplements, it's always best to talk to your doctor or health professional.

5. Vitamin B12

A lot of doctors recommend vitamin b12 shots over other oral tablets. However, TriVita's patented Sublingual Vitamin B12 may provide the proper supply of this all important vitamin.

Why is vitamin b12 necessary? According to a web site that's promoting b12 shots, "vitamin B12 shots are designed to provide the user with a boost in energy and a prolonged source of energy to use during the day. There are some advantages to getting Vitamin B Vitamin supplements in the form of Vitamin B12 injections. Because the vitamin is absorbed more quickly into the bloodstream this way, B12 injections can provide a quick energy boost. Many people who get vitamin B12 injections notice an improvement in their energy level within a few days, if not sooner. In addition to feeling more energy, the shots can be effective in terms of clearer skin, better sleep, improved memory, and feeling less stressed. The fact is that Vitamin B12 is a micro nutrient that is used in the process of energy release. Without the presence of Vitamin B12 you could not burn calories and your energy would not be released." [1]

As you can see from the quote above, vitamin b12 is not just a quick energy booster; it produces a lot of other effective results. Before we get into the positive results, let's take a look at what your body may have to deal with if you are vitamin b12 deficient.

The most severe case of vitamin b12 deficiency (your body does not have enough of this vitamin) is anemia, which means you do not have enough red blood cells to do the job which can leave you feeling week and tired. Typically, vitamin B12 deficiency anemia is not diagnosed until it is moderate to severe.

Some symptoms of vitamin b12 deficiency include:

  • Feeling week, tired or lightheaded
  • Memory loss and or disorientation
  • Having pale skin, or white spots on the skin, resulting from melatonin becoming absent in the area
  • Have a sore, red or itchy tongue. Some may experience sores at the corners of the mouth. These are raw spots, not blisters, and they tend to come and go
  • Numbness or tingling in your fingers and or toes
  • Sharp stabbing pain in the palm of one or both hands
  • Eye twitch, usually in one eye or the other. It can occur on the eyelid or just below
  • Depression [1]

A simple blood test can determine if you are vitamin b12 deficient. And once the diagnosis has been completed, there are two ways to treat the deficiency: 1.) get b12 shots; 2.) take TriVita's Sublingual B12. If you're into doctors and needles, shots may be right for you. If you'd prefer an easier method, try TriVita's Sublingual B12 tablets. These tablets dissolve under your tongue, and have patented delivery system.

Dr. Alfred Libby, M.D., a renowned authority on therapeutic nutrition and longtime associate of Nobel Prize Laureate, Dr. Linus Pauling, began to explore an alternative delivery system for Vitamin B-12. The goal was to bypass the stomach where this essential nutrient is not easily absorbed.

In early spring of 1980, Dr. Libby approached his colleagues with his new theory that B-12 could be delivered to the bloodstream sublingually (under the tongue). Biochemists and his medical colleagues were quick to dismiss the idea. However, he was persistent and they eventually decided to give his theory a try, although they were convinced it would fail.

Six weeks later the first clinical trial was underway. Shortly after, Dr. Libby's Sublingual B-12 invention was deemed a complete success - blood levels of B-12 increased from 1.2% to over 90%! In fact, Dr. Libby's patented sublingual delivery method is able to deliver up to 98% absorption where oral tablets have as little as 2%.

Dr. Libby continued his research for the rest of his life. Over 20 years of research went into vitamin b12 and its effects on the human body. It's no wonder that with TriVita's Sublingual B12, you can be assured that your body is getting the B vitamins it needs. The original, patented formula bypasses the digestive system, speeding the nutrients directly to your bloodstream, where they can go to work right away.

If you fear needles and shots, why not try TriVita's Sublingual B12. To learn more about TriVita's Sublingual Vitamin B-12, click on the previous link.

6. Betalains and Anti-Aging

There's been a lot of talk about TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea, and for good reason. The betalains, the main nutrient of the Nopal cactus, are known as a natural and powerful anti-inflammatory nutrient, one that fights inflammation and thus, helps to relieve chronic pain that is caused by inflammation.

In a recent "anti-aging" conference, the topic that got the most attention was the destruction and rebuilding of cells within the human body. As a result, one presenter was actually talking about betalains and the Nopal cactus, the key ingredient of TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea.

Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer, writes about the conference, stem cells, and the Nopal cactus. I've included the complete article below:

Nopalea and Stem Cells - by Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer

I attended an anti-aging conference recently. The discussions were about natural and pharmaceutical ways to slow the aging process and extend the vitality/longevity of humans. There were 20 speakers from around the world. All 20 of these physicians and professors eventually discussed stem cells as a way to slow aging and speed healing.

What are stem cells and how can they help us live long, healthy lives? Are there natural products that can assist us as we age?

What are stem cells?
At conception, cells begin to divide into what will become a person. Along the way the cells "differentiate" - that is, they become different tissues. Some become the heart, others the brain and so on until the complete human is formed. These are called "embryonic" stem cells. Highly controversial experiments are being conducted with samples of these cells.

Once a person is formed, does the human body stop making stem cells? No, because stem cells are part of our miraculous healing process. We make stem cells every day of our life. These are different from embryonic stem cells because they actually replace other cells. You see, every cell in your body has a life span. When that cell dies it needs to be replaced. Stem cells made in your bone marrow and other places in your body follow a chemical trail back to the place where the cell dies and "differentiate" into the type of cell that died.

Aging can be defined as the process of cell death and cell replacement. Premature aging is when more cells die than you can replace in a single day. Chronic disease and disability often accompany premature aging, as you might imagine. Stem cells replace dead cells. So, the more stem cells you can make in a day, the slower you are aging, the more vital you may be, and the less likely you are to experience the chronic diseases associated with premature aging. All 20 of the experts at the anti-aging conference endorsed doing all we can to promote stem cell production by our own body.

Making stem cells
As I mentioned, we make stem cells every day. Dying cells release enzymes into your bloodstream. Your brain interprets the level of enzymes and sends an appropriate amount of Human growth hormone (HgH). When the HgH reaches the bone marrow or other stem cell "nursery," it triggers the release of a number of stem cells that roughly correspond to the amount of HgH. The stem cells follow the chemical trail left by the enzymes of the dying cell. They follow the trail back to the space left by the dead cell and nestle into the tissues. Once there, they differentiate into the cell they replace - they literally become the exact type of cell they replaced.

Nutrients are required for making cells (including stem cells). If you are deficient in any critical nutrient at the moment you create stem cells, one of two things will happen:

  1. Your bone marrow will refuse the order to meet that quota of stem cells, causing premature aging, or
  2. The cells will be made, but without the nutrients critical for the health and longevity of the cell. When a deficient cell matures it becomes the target for inflammation and disease.

Cells need nutrients. Without all of the appropriate nutrients on board at all times, we will not be able to make as many healthy cells as we lose in a day. The disparity between how many cells we lose and how many we can replace is premature aging.

More stem cells
Nutrients serve as the foundation for stem cells. However, specific nutrients also stimulate the production of stem cells. At the anti-aging conference, six stem cell-stimulating nutrients were identified. As one speaker neared the end of his presentation, he talked about "a curious bioflavonoid" found in great abundance in prickly pears from the Nopal cactus. Of course, he was talking about Betalains! It turns out that Betalains along with Vitamin B-12 may help your body increase the production of stem cells.

More healthy stem cells close the gap between the numbers of cells that die and the number of cells we replace every day. That equals slower aging. So, take your nutrients every day: Men's and Women's Wellavoh for the nutrient foundation we need, Super Sublingual B-12 and Nopalea to encourage an abundant crop of anti-aging stem cells!

7. Vitamin D - Protector from Cancer?

Probably one of the most unknown facts regarding vitamin D is that it's one of the most powerful nutrients in nature. Not only does this inflammation fighter help promote healthy heart and brain function, but new studies show the vitamin can help slow down the progression of certain cancers. As a matter of fact, according to numerous studies and medical journals vitamin d, the sunshine vitamin, may be the key to optimum health. It's no surprise that some scientists call Vitamin D the ultimate protector from disease.

However, nine out of 10 Americans are deficient in vitamin D. Furthermore, it's been documented many times that even people who spend plenty of time in the sun can still lack this vital inflammation fighter. This is becoming more and more serious because inflammation is a major cause of heart and brain attacks, high blood pressure, joint pain, bone loss, digestive problems, blood sugar imbalances and a host of other serious health problems.

Results of a recent study, presented at the American Society of Hematology's annual meeting in New Orleans, states that "a high proportion of community-dwelling subjects in both tropical and temperate climates are deficient in vitamin D, and that subjects in northern latitudes often require dietary supplementation to maintain vitamin D sufficiency." [1]

They also go on and say that "several reports now suggest that vitamin D sufficiency is protective against the development of several cancers, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). However, it is not known whether vitamin D impacts prognosis in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the most common NHL subtype." [1]

You can read the background, methods, and results of the entire study by copying and pasting the web site address which is listed under the resources heading. But part of the conclusion states that "approximately 50% of all DLBCL patients in this northern US latitude population are vitamin D deficient at the time of diagnosis and treatment. Vitamin D deficient patients have an inferior event-free and overall survival compared to patients with vitamin D levels within the normal range."

The conclusion of their study should solidify the thought that vitamin D is important. Furthermore, there's some good news if you feel you're vitamin D deficient: It's possible to restore healthy levels of vitamin D by starting a daily routine of VitaCal-Mag D from TriVita dangerous health problems. However, you must have the highest quality, and most absorbable vitamin D for optimum bone, heart and brain health; TriVita's VitalCal-Mag D fits the bill.

8. Jump-Start Your Weight Loss

For many years now, the number one New Year's resolution has been weight loss, and it seems like it hasn't changed this year (2010).

I was watching some television over the holidays and many shows had surveys regarding your number one New Year's resolution. And overwhelmingly, the number one answer was losing weight. Does that surprise you? Well, if you're like me, it should not be a big surprise, since obesity is running rampant over our culture.

We don't have to look very far to see how fat we as a society have become; and I'm not immune to this phenomenon. Yes, that's right I could stand to lose a few pounds also, especially after all the holiday parties. So, how do we get started to shed those unwanted pounds? Well, Brazos Minshew, Chief Science Officer of TriVita, has written an article for the TriVita Weekly Wellness Report giving us some simple and effective ways to to lose weight. I posted the article in its entirety.

How to Jump-Start Your Weight Loss by Brazos Minshew

Weight loss is the number one "resolution" people make when they decide to improve their health. When weight loss occurs it comes from a loss of body mass: water, fat, lean body tissue and bones. Wouldn't it be great to focus weight loss on fat only? It certainly would. In fact, weight loss that selectively targets fat and preserves or increases lean body tissues and bones is the only way to permanently lose weight.

Sounds difficult, right? Well, don't worry: We have a solution!

Suicidal weight loss
Many people lose weight rapidly by starving themselves. I call this suicidal weight loss for three reasons:

  1. Rapid weight loss is water loss; water loss is dehydration and dehydration is death.
  2. Rapid weight loss comes from lean body tissue (brain, heart, muscle, collagen, etc.). Sarcopenia (age-related loss of lean body tissue) is death.
  3. Rapid weight loss comes from bone. Bone loss is osteoporosis; osteoporosis kills more women in North America than breast cancer!

Rapid weight loss by starving yourself is slow suicide.

Lifetime weight control
An alternative to this kind of weight loss madness is to select a strategy that focuses on weight loss from fat only. This is not done by accident. We must select fat loss by choice. This choice implies knowledge; knowledge means that we must learn the lesson of obesity and battle it for the rest of our lives.

Calories - Obesity in simplistic terms is about consuming more calories than you burn in a single day. Multiply these extra calories over time and you have what we all see: an obesity epidemic. However, it is not merely the number of calories we eat; we must include the right kind of calories for lifetime weight control. Organizations such as the American Heart Association and the America Cancer Society recommend eating 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables daily (5 for children, 7 for women and 9 for men). These are the best calories.

Movement - Our body is made to move. Daily exercise is necessary for lifetime weight control and targeted fat loss. Aerobic training for 30 minutes on most days of the week and weight training (resistance training) 2 to 5 times per week will keep the fires of your metabolism burning fat.

Other tips:

  • Deep breathing for 20 minutes daily reduces fat-building hormones like cortisol.
  • Get your sleep: The less you sleep, the more you will weigh.
  • Eat small meals: Eating more than 400 calories at a single meal causes our cells to suffocate from insulin.

Why supplementation is important
Taking certain supplements can help you lose weight, but you really have to be careful! One supplement that was heavily advertised on television was shown to cause 74% weight loss from lean body tissue. Another supplement that seemed to be the most popular weight loss supplement of the time caused 55% lean body loss. That is suicidal weight loss!

Beneficial supplements exist. For example, Leanology Weight Loss Capsules were studied in a top-of-the-line, scientific clinical trial through Arizona State University. They were shown to reduce weight entirely from fat! Yes, 100% of the weight loss came from fat!

Also, the plant antioxidant ECGC (found in Energy Now!) can increase metabolism by over 200 calories per gram.

My favorite fat loss supplement to "jump-start" a weight loss program is Vital C. This is primarily because of the nature of fat: a toxic dumping ground for chemicals and poisons your body could not eliminate. Vital C is a pH-balanced form of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C). Ascorbic acid neutralizes many of the toxins we store in our fat cells. For rapid weight loss that targets fat cells, use a Vitamin C Flush, Energy Now! and, especially, Leanology.

Conclusion
Good health only comes from healthy living. Take time to learn the rules of healthy living. Practice healthy habits every day. Soon, the "deposits" you make into your health account will begin to yield real dividends: a lean body functioning at peak efficiency!

9. Weight Loss

As we approach January 2010 many of our new year’s resolutions will begin to take shape. A large group of individuals will probably start to think about getting in shape and losing weight. As this is the case almost every year, I would imagine that it's no different this year.

With that said I feel it's a good time to share TriVita's latest Wellness Report with you. So, if exercise and weight loss are on your radar screen for the coming year, this report, written by Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer, should help you get started on the right track.

Calories: Time to Burn!
by Brazos Minshew

Losing weight is a challenge. It requires the same careful consideration that you would give to any serious endeavor; don't fail to plan. But, create a plan that is realistic. Allow for interruptions such as sickness or travel. Plan to start during a quiet time in your life, not when work and family responsibilities are likely to be at their peak.

You may prefer to start with an exercise program and then add in dietary changes. Or you may want to do it the other way around. If you're really motivated, you may want to start both the exercise and diet segments simultaneously.

Your diet
Very few aspects of your life are as emotionally charged as securing your right to choose for yourself. From early childhood until today, one of the most frequent choices you make concerns your diet. You must have choices and they must be your own. Recognize that restricting yourself from available choices goes against your very nature. A restrictive diet is doomed to failure. Select a diet that is uncomplicated and appealing to you and you will have a greater chance for success.

The first challenge we face in diet selection is committing to the discipline of thinking ahead instead of eating impulsively. So, start with something small and attainable:

  • Many health experts recommend fresh fruits and vegetables daily
    • 5 servings for children
    • 7 servings for women
    • 9 servings for men
  • Add high quality protein to your diet
  • Drink plenty of water

These are easy steps that you can accomplish today! Remember, the time you spend selecting the right diet for yourself is an investment in your health and your future. Give it the attention it deserves.

Calories in - calories OUT!
We must burn more calories than we consume in order for weight loss to occur.

Exercise is the key to permanent, lifetime weight control. There is no way around it. However, exercise does not have to be a punishment; it can really be pleasurable. The key is finding something you enjoy doing. I suggest that you start with three forms of activity; this prevents exercise boredom. Add more activities every month. Get in the habit of participating in at least 30 minutes of activity every day.

There are basically two types of exercise that you need every week:

  1. Aerobic exercise is defined as any activity that increases your need for oxygen. Aerobics make you breathe harder. You need at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise most days of the week.

Aerobic exercise can balance hormones, relieve anxiety and depression, and mobilize your energy for the great works of your life. Aerobic exercise speeds up your metabolism.

But where does metabolism originate? It comes from your lean body mass your muscles! That is the domain of resistance training.
  2. Progressive resistance training is defined as any exercise where the load to the muscle is increased by some mechanical means - weights, bands, springs, and many other methods. The key is to progressively increase the weight or resistance over time. This results in more lean body mass and less fat mass. If you increase your muscle strength, you increase the "engines" that produce muscle energy. Nothing builds metabolism (muscle energy) as well as progressive resistance training.

Supplements for weight loss
The Leanology Smart Weight Loss System can also be an important part of your weight loss plan. For many people it represents the critical difference between success and failure in lifetime weight control.

  • Fat burning capsules Leanology Weight Loss Capsules help increase metabolism and energy to support your body's ability to burn more calories. Plus, they help limit cortisol production - the stress-induced hormone that can lead to abdominal fat.
  • Snack replacement chews Leanology Appetite Control Chews contain ingredients that are clinically proven to help curb the appetite.
  • Nutritional shakes Leanology Nutritional Shakes can be used as a low calorie meal substitute; they provide a healthy balance of wholesome carbohydrates, proteins, good fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

However, you must always remember that these are supplements; they supplement a healthy diet and exercise program. Use them wisely as an important part of your total wellness program.

10. Vitamin D

As we continue to grow older, our tissues start to break down leading to weaker and brittle bones. However, there is one mineral that helps to repair and strengthen our bones and body tissue; that is calcium. When calcium is combined with vitamin D, it's possible to boost your bone mass, muscle strength, blood vessel dilation and nervous system.

For years we have been taught that calcium builds strong bones. I can remember my mother saying, "Drink your milk it builds strong bones." As we have all learned, milk was the best source of calcium. That is, until now, where we have TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D.

VitaCal-Mag D provides five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption. TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D is also absorbable so you can get the nutrition you need for healthier bones.

Even though we have been taught that calcium is what's need to build strong bones, a lot of research has proven that it's actually the combination of calcium and vitamin d that works the best. That's why I believe TriVita developed this product, and that's why there are many other products available on the market with this distinct combination of vitamins and minerals. In fact, it's been proven through scientific research and case studies that vitamin d plays a role in neuroprotection.

Yes, there is a growing body of evidence linking the development of Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia to vitamin D deficiency. The existing evidence centers around the fact that low serum levels of vitamin D have been associated with increased risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, depression, cavities, osteoporosis and periodontal disease. All of these conditions are considered either a risk factor for dementia or may precede its onset.

This may be a long way from drinking your milk to build strong bones, but nonetheless, it's every bit as important. If you're growing older, and who isn't, you owe it to yourself to go to Google and do additional research on vitamin d deficiency. This is an ever growing area of concern, and one that's not going to go away any time soon. If you're worried about being vitamin d deficient, click on the previous link to read one of my other articles.

11. Vitamin B12

Your body needs B vitamins for protection against illnesses and conditions that are associated with B vitamin deficiency. And according to studies, B vitamin deficiency is common – more common than you might think!

According to the WebMD web site (www.webmd.com), "Having vitamin B12 deficiency means that your body does not have enough of this vitamin. You need B12 to make red blood cells, which carry oxygen through your body. Not having enough B12 can lead to anemia, which means your body does not have enough red blood cells to do the job. This can make you feel weak and tired."

What are your options for obtaining this all important vitamin? The most popular method is B12 shots. If you’re B12 deficient, you may "get a shot every day for 1 week, then once a week for a month, and then once every month. You can also learn to give yourself shots and/or have a family member learn how to do it."

Another method to receive vitamin b12 is by taking pills. However, the majority of individual's bodies, DO NOT absorb the b12 vitamin thought the stomach, so other alternatives, like TriVita's Sublingual B12, can be the answer.

"Sublingual" means "under the tongue." By simply placing a TriVita Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid tablet under your tongue and allowing it to dissolve completely, your body will absorb these essential B vitamins directly into your bloodstream. TriVita's original patented Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid was specially formulated to produce results quickly.

Regular oral B-12 tablets have to take a long trip through your complex digestive system before being absorbed by your body. And, your ability to absorb B vitamins from food and regular oral pills decreases as you age.

With the TriVita original patented formula, you don't have to worry about your B-12 going through a digestive system obstacle course – or the pain and expense of a B-12 injection. These essential nutrients go directly into your bloodstream, where they start working right away!

So, if your suffering from B12 deficiency and don't what to go through the pain and expense of B12 shots, check out TriVita's Sublingual Vitamin B12 by clicking on the previous link.

12. Sonoran Bloom Nopalea

The main ingredient of TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ is the nopal cactus. Why? Because studies show that the nopal (the prickly pear cactus) is a valuable health supporting nutrient. The nopal helps support immune, glandular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems.

Below is additional information on the real value of the nopal, and why it has been chosen to be the main ingredient in Nopalea™. Even though this information has not been verified by the FDA, many independent scientific studies have compiled the follow information.

The nopal's 18 amino acids provides you with more energy & reduce fatigue by helping the body to lower blood sugar. The nopal strengthens the liver & pancreas thereby increasing sensitivity to insulin which stimulates the movement of glucose from the blood into body cells where it is used as energy. It also slows the digestion of carbohydrates which in turn slows insulin production.

The nopal is high in nutrients that help to strengthen the liver and the pancreas. The health of these two organs is vitally important for the proper conversion of carbohydrate sugars into stored glycogen, which is then useable as energy by the body. The production of insulin and the sensitivity of body cells to insulin is necessary to move glucose from the blood stream into body cells where it is used as energy. The nopal helps to detoxify and support the functions of the liver and pancreas, while improving body cell response to insulin stimulation.

The active ingredients found in the nopal aid in preventing the digestive system from absorbing excess dietary fat and carbohydrate sugars, thereby maintaining proper blood sugar balance and helping to control obesity. Nopal contains high levels of both soluble and insoluble dietary fibers. Soluble fibers present in Nopal include mucilages, pectin, gums and some hemicellulose. Insoluble fibers include cellulose, lignan and remaining hemicellulose. Nopal is a gentle alternative to psyllium 9a well-known fiber supplement taken for colon cleansing) for those with a sensitivity or allergy to psyllium.

Phytochemicals are powerful allies for the body's immune system, by allowing the body to defend itself against pathogens. Recent studies have found that among the phytochemicals found in the nopal are the types that inhibit cancerous cell growth and may even help prevent cancer from developing. Animal studies confirm this, showing that dosages of juice from the nopal increase immune system efficiency in controlling tumor growth, Epstein-Barr virus and suppressed immune response.

The nopal acts in several ways that have been found to reduce the risk of heart disease. First, the fiber found in the nopal acts to absorb and excrete cholesterol in the digestive system. Second, the amino acids, fiber and B3 (niacin) found in the nopal prevents excess sugar conversions into fats, while reducing triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, by metabolizing fat and fatty acids and eliminating excess bile acids which eventually convert into cholesterol. Third, the B3 (niacin) in the nopal acts to convert LDL (bad) cholesterol to HDL (good) forms of cholesterol.

Further studies suggest that the amino acids and fiber, together with the anti-oxidant effect of the vitamin C and vitamin A (B-carotene) found in the nopal, aid in preventing blood vessel wall damage and the formation of fatty plaques in the arteries (arteriosclerosis).

The nopal helps prevent diabetic Neuropathy (nerve damage) and aids in the balancing and calming of the nervous system, which creates a sense of well being and benefits the body's overall function.

The nopal is a natural source of 18 Amino acids, 8 of which must be ingested as food. Vitamins A, E, and C act as antioxidants. Vitamin B (niacin) lowers cholesterol. Vitamin B12 protect against atherosclerosis. Vitamin E helps prevent blood clots and the formation of fatty plaques on the walls of the arteries and helps counteract nerve damage associated with adult-onset diabetes. Folic acid reduces the risk of stroke, and together with B12 helps to prevent cells from becoming malignant. The nopal is an excellent source of these important vitamins in a natural form.

I know your probably thinking that all these fantastic attributes surrounding the nopal cactus seem to good to be true. I'd be skeptical also if I read this. That's why I suggest you go to Google and do a search for the nopal cactus, and/or Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™. I'm sure you will find that the nopal cactus is one true natural fruit that delivers results. However, it's not a fruit that is typically sold in stores.

Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ delivers results, just like the nopal cactus. To learn more about TriVita and Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™, click on the previous links.

13. Fighting Inflammation

In an article called, Inflammation: The New Medical "Bad Guy", by Bruce Bailey, Ph.D., starts by writing, "according to the latest medical theory, chronic inflammation is the root cause of almost every disease suffered by human beings." This should NOT be new news to anyone, as Hippocrates had this same theory hundreds of years ago.

What is inflammation?

According to Dr. Bailey, "as a part of our immune response system, inflammation occurs when the body is fighting germs that enter the body through a variety of ways, e.g. injury or inhalation. When you experience redness, swelling, heat, infection, and pain from a variety of ailments, it's a sign of inflammation".

So what happens if we fail to effectively fight and/or stop the inflammation? Dr. Bailey says"normally, the inflammation goes away when the body has conquered the infection or injury, but if the body fails to shut off the inflammation process, a more serious condition can occur."

What types of serious conditions is Dr. Bailey talking about? The most serious condition is a heart attack. If you have never considered inflammation and a heart attack related, look at Dr. Bailey's response to how inflammation can cause a heart attack.

"It is generally recognized that heart attacks occur when the blood vessels become clogged with 'plaque' (what we usually refer to as the bad LDL cholesterol) that is deposited on the vessel walls. This bad cholesterol also gets embedded inside arteries and our immune system 'attacks' it. Persistent inflammation in the arteries can eventually cause plaque to burst. Now many doctors use a simple blood test for inflammation called CRP (short for C-reactive Protein) to help assess a person's cardiac risk. CRP is an index of inflammation in the arteries and the CRP increases as inflammation increases. For example, test have shown that middle aged men with high CRP levels in their blood were three times more likely to suffer a heart attack in the next 6 years than men with normal levels. Medical experts say that a CRP of 3.0 mg/L or higher triples your heart attack risk. People with CRP less than 0.5 mg/L rarely have heart attacks."

How can we prevent heart attacks, fight inflammation, and lower our cholesterol all at the same time?

Most doctors will tell you diet and exercise are the best ways to lower cholesterol. However, does diet and exercise help fight inflammation? "According to the Center for Human Nutrition at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, some foods can cause inflammation while others can decrease it. Diets that are rich in fruits and vegetables, and foods that offer lots of Omega-3 fatty acids (such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, and walnuts) are best. Further, a diet of such foods has been shown to be instrumental in weight reduction, and lowering CRP and insulin resistance."

Since "chronic inflammation is the root cause of almost every disease" including heart attacks, we should take every measure possible to keep our bodies healthy and operating at peak performance. One way to keep your body operating efficiently and to also combat any germs and/or toxins that may exist inside your body is to drink TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea on a daily basis.

Why? Because Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ helps to fight inflammation naturally, through betalains, a very effective anti-inflammatory fighter which is found in the Nopal cactus, the key ingredient of Nopalea.

If it's true what Hippocrates said many years ago, that "all disease is one", and what doctors agree upon today, "chronic inflammation is the root cause of almost every disease", and if the majority of diseases are in some way related to inflammation, germs and toxins, doesn't it make sense to try TriVita's Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™,

For information on how you can boost your health and extend your life by reducing chronic inflammation, go to the Sonoran Bloom web site by clicking on the previous link.

14. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Just about every one of us has heard about the healthful benefits of adding fish oil to your diet. Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which has been linked to positive effects in the human body. These benefits include lower blood pressure, lower triglycerides and overall cholesterol levels, and even the possibility of reducing the effects of certain types of cancers. The cancers in question include colon, breast, and prostate cancer.

Omega 3 fatty acids have been included in a multitude of medical studies as being very helpful in lowering the risk of heart disease. However, it only includes those individuals that have taken significant amounts of omega-3 over a long period of time. So, what quantity of omega-3 fatty acids are needed to provide an individual with exceptional results?

Perhaps there is no exact answer, however, we need to take a look at some variables before deciding on how much you need to ingest into your diet for them to become effective.

First of all, there's the age factor. According to experts, "younger people need a higher dose of fish oil than older people." Why? More than likely, it's due to the fact that younger people have higher metabolisms and are more active. The fact that they are more active, leads to their bodies burning higher amounts of calories and fats. On the other hand, older people are typically less active, in turn, they don't need quite as much fish oil to achieve the same benefits.

The second factor that plays a role in deciding on how much omega-3 fatty acids you need is the source, or quality, in which you are taking. Fish oil from its true source, like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon, may not be as effective as, say, a supplement. And if your source of the natural fish is not reliable, it may even cause more harm than good, especially if it's contaminated with mercury. The source and quality of omega-3 fatty acids is very important.

Fish oil is readily available in capsule and liquid form, but then again, not all are created equal. It's been scientifically proven that the quality and concentration of fish oil over the counter can vary greatly. When choosing a quality fish oil supplement, one should make sure that it's at least health food store grade, and preferably pharmaceutical grade. The higher the quality, the less you should have to ingest to experience the real health benefits.

Your medical condition is the final factor to consider when deciding what dosage of fish oil you need. For example, if you have high cholesterol, are a high risk of heart disease or have high blood pressure, your doctor may prescribe a higher than normal dose for you. Remember, it's up to your doctor to decide. As with any supplement, you should consult your physician, or medical professional first. It's not advised to self prescribe more than is recommended on the label of any over-the-counter supplement.

So, what's the general rule of thumb? The American Heart Association recommends consuming 1–3 grams per day of EPA and DHA. For certain medical conditions, however, higher doses of omega-3 products, up to 4 grams per day, can be used safely, and with good effect. Included the right amount of omega 3 fatty acids can be one of the smartest and most healthy things you ever do for yourself and your body.

TriVita's Omega Prime helps meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for omega-3 fatty acids. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.

15. Vitamin B12

"Dr. Alfred Libby was a medical doctor and substance abuse therapy specialist who worked primarily with heroin addicts – searching for new therapies to improve the detoxification process. He was aware that most addicts were not getting the B-12 they needed through food, but he was extremely reluctant to give them any kind of injection. In the late 1970s, Dr. Libby began to explore an alternative delivery system for vitamin B-12. The goal was to bypass the stomach where this essential nutrient is not easily absorbed."

"In early spring of 1980, Dr. Libby approached his colleagues with his theory that B-12 could be delivered to the bloodstream sublingually (under the tongue). Biochemists and his medical colleagues were quick to dismiss the idea. However, he was persistent and they eventually decided to give his theory a try, although they were convinced it would fail."

"Six weeks later the first study was underway. Shortly after, Dr. Libby's sublingual delivery method was deemed a complete success – blood levels of B-12 increased dramatically. Dr. Libby significantly improved his formula with the addition of B-6 & Folic Acid and was issued a patent in 1984 for his sublingual process."

"And now, from the experts that brought you the original Sublingual B-12 comes TriVita Super Sublingual B-12. With the original, patented delivery system, TriVita Super B provides more B-12 than the average B-12 shot. Studies show that these important nutrients can be measured in the bloodstream in as little as 30 minutes! Plus, it's the first and only B-12 product to combine both major forms of B-12 with B-6, folic acid and ginseng."

"Thanks to Dr. Libby's original, patented delivery system, thousands of people have experienced increased stamina, mental clarity, improved memory and much more"!

The information listed above is from the TriVita web site (www.trivita.com/superb/getsuperb.com/dr_libby.aspx), and the reason I bring this up is because of my wife's son, who has been told that he may have to continue receiving Vitamin B-12 shots the rest of his life. He's only 25! YIKES!

Here's his short story. Eighteen months ago he was in the hospital with what was diagnosed as a bleeding ulcer. The doctors found and repaired the problem, no worries. Fast forward to the present (one month ago) - seventeen months later - his condition returned. This time it was much worse, as he was hospitalized for five days, and was given six units of blood. As the doctors continued to monitor his one month progress, they find out that his blood levels are too low (whatever that means).

That leads us to where I started his story. The doctors feel that he "may need vitamin b12 shot the rest of his life." So with that said, I suggested TriVita's patented Sublingual B12. Is it recommended by the doctors? Will it be as effective as a true vitamin b12 shot? I guess only time will tell. If "TriVita Super B provides more B-12 than the average B-12 shot" he should be fine, and should be getting enough b12 into his system to discontinue the painful shots.

16. Omega Prime and Cholesterol

If you're fighting high cholesterol, look no further than TriVita's Omega Prime. Omega Prime is a high source of omega-23 fatty acids, considered essential fatty acids. They are essential to human health but cannot be manufactured by the body. For this reason, omega-3 fatty acids must be obtained from food and/or dietary supplements.

According to TriVita's Chief Science Officer, Brazos Minshew, the guidelines for healthy cholesterol have changed. New targets have been established that tell us that perhaps our efforts to manage cholesterol and other blood lipids have been inadequate. This is especially true when we consider the target for LDL (low density lipoprotein), the so-called "bad" cholesterol.

Why should we be concerned with our LDL level? How did we get into such a deplorable state when it comes to managing our cholesterol? How can we use this information to improve our health?

What is LDL?

Low density lipoproteins (LDL) are often considered to be a "bad" form of cholesterol. But this is an extreme mischaracterization of a very beneficial fat in our blood. You see, your body makes important things out of LDL: brain cells and nerves are shielded with LDL cholesterol-based fats. And hormones in your bloodstream and inside your cells are made from LDL cholesterol. So, LDL is not really "bad," just misunderstood!

The dark side of cholesterol metabolism occurs when a person over-produces LDL and when LDL particles become sticky, oxidized and inflamed. This is one cause of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), which leads to heart attack and stroke, peripheral artery disease (PAD) and other diseases of your blood vessels.

Why cholesterol is "high"

We also make hormones from good cholesterol. Most doctors recommend over 1,200 milligrams of omega-3 fats for building healthy hormones and reducing "bad" cholesterol. Omega Prime® contains beneficial omega-3 fats. You may find that you need more Omega Prime every day to build cholesterol into trophic hormones.

Estrogen, progesterone, DHEA and testosterone are examples of trophic hormones. They are made of the same substance: cholesterol. If your body is unable to convert cholesterol into these hormones you may see your blood levels of cholesterol rise. You can bring your cholesterol down and your low hormones up by supporting cholesterol-to-hormone conversion. TriVita can help support healthy hormone metabolism with supplements such as Omega Prime, Vitamin E, Balanced Woman™ and Prostate Health Formula.

The most critical balance of hormones occurs between insulin and glucagon. When we sleep too little, when we are stressed too much and when we eat too much sugar - especially high fructose corn syrup - our insulin levels stay too high for too long and cause insulin resistance. High levels of insulin cause the liver to release high levels of cholesterol and LDL. Oxidized LDL inflames, gets sticky and clogs arteries.

Glucagon is a liver hormone that balances blood sugar and lowers cholesterol and LDL. TriVita supports glucagon metabolism with adaptogens for stress and Leanology™ capsules to sustain healthy blood sugar. They also assist with LDL "stickiness" by using robust levels of Vitamin C. TriVita helps your body reduce inflammation with Betalains found in Nopalea™.

17. Weight Loss

I've looked at many weight loss programs and have yet to find one that works without making some sort of lifestyle change. If you want to lose weight, there's no magic bullet. As a matter of fact, the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is through lifestyle changes, like healthier eating habits, eating low-calorie foods, watching your portion sizes, and engaging in regular physical activity. This is certainly no magic pill, but it does work.

Here's something to keep in your mind, even if you use a weight-loss pill, you still have to consume fewer calories than your body uses. That's the fact in order to lose weight. Even if weight-loss pills were to help you lose weight initially, you'd probably have to continue taking them for the weight to stay off. Most often this may not be practical or safe.

The best advice I can give you, if you're concerned about your weight, is to talk to your doctor or healthcare professional. Whether you have 10 pounds or 100 pounds to lose, your doctor of healthcare professional can direct you in the right direction. More than likely, they will suggest that you need to eat a healthy diet, and burn calories through physical activity and exercise.

When it comes to losing weight, there is no easy solution. However, TriVita's Leanology®, can give you the extra added advantage to help you get started on your weight loss journey. Leanology® offers the most advanced system of weight loss products on the market, as part of an easy 3-Step System to help you lose weight the smart and healthy way!

Dietary supplements and weight-loss aids aren't subject to the same rigorous standards as are prescription drugs or medications sold over-the-counter. However, Leanology® products are "scientifically-formulated and physician-approved." They are natural, nutrient based, and contain no stimulants.

Leanology® has been clinically-proven for optimal, healthy weight loss. The Leanology system of products is convenient and easy to use!

With most weight loss products, it's hard to know what the consumer is actually getting, or even if the list of ingredients matches what's in the bottle. There are many weight-loss pills that contain a whole host of ingredients — some with more than 20 herbs, botanicals, vitamins, minerals or other add-ons, such as caffeine or laxatives. It's often hard to determine how these ingredients interact individually and collectively with your body. Using some of these products can be risky, especially if you're taking prescription medications.

This is precisely why the good folks at TriVita have had their weight loss products "scientifically-formulated and physician-approved." This leaves no questions as to whether the product works or not, and also gives the consumer confidence that the ingredients listed on the bottle are actually included in the product.

TriVita makes no outrageous claims! They states facts, backed by science, that are supported by physicians. TriVita is a proven company with proven products. To learn more about TriVita, TriVita products, or TriVita's weight loss system, Leanology, click on the previous links.

18. Vitamin D and Your Heart

I've been writing about vitamin d and how important it is to get the proper amount of this vitamin to maintain a healthy skeletal system. Well a new study conducted by the Heart Institute at Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City suggests that "Vitamin D contributes to a strong and healthy heart as well – and that inadequate levels of the vitamin may significantly increase a person's risk of stroke, heart disease, and death, even among people who've never had heart disease."

This study has been going on for more than a year, and was conducted on "27,686 patients who were 50 years of age or older with no prior history of cardiovascular disease." The participants within this study all had routine blood tests to check for vitamin d. There were three different groups created - "normal (over 30 nanograms per milliliter), low (15-30 ng/ml), or very low (less than 15 ng/ml)" - where participants were placed according to their individual results.

"Researchers found that patients with very low levels of Vitamin D were 77 percent more likely to die, 45 percent more likely to develop coronary artery disease, and 78 percent were more likely to have a stroke than patients with normal levels. Patients with very low levels of Vitamin D were also twice as likely to develop heart failure than those with normal Vitamin D levels."

Previously, medical experts said that vitamin D supplementation should be taken, and/or increased to help promote bone health and ward off diseases like osteoporosis. However, since the new study that was presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Conference on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 in Orlando, Florida, you may see a shift in the way medical professionals will look at vitamin d.

I'm not suggesting that you run out and purchase an exorbitant amount of vitamin d, but what I am suggesting, is that you take another look at this vitamin, and ask your doctor if it really is as important as this new study suggests. I'm not a medical professional, nor do I suggest that I am, however, when I read article regarding health and wellness, I do a little more investigating.

Our health is nothing to take for granted. As we all know, the healthcare industry has enough struggles of its own. If we can do our own research, listen to our primary care professional, and take every preventable measure to ensure that we get the proper vitamins and nutrients each and every day, we will be doing our part to improving not only the healthcare industry, but also our health.

Vitamin D has always been know as the sunshine vitamin, but many of us do not get enough sunshine to get the recommended requirements of this all important vitamin. So, as winter approaches in the northern hemisphere, may I suggest TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D.

According to TriVita, "the key to bone health is calcium and Vitamin D. These are the two essential ingredients that will help you maintain the strength of your skeletal system, ensure regular cellular activity, proper cardiac function, and preserve the health of other vital body systems."

TriVita has known for some time about vitamin d and its affect on the heart, as you can see by the quote above. The study listed above backs up what TriVita has been advocating for some time.

You can learn all about vitamin supplements and vitamin D by going to the TriVita Products website.

19. Weight Loss

Maintaining your weight especially during the holiday season can be quite difficult. Stress related situations surrounding the holiday season can cause one to eat more often, which leads to extra pounds. Avoiding stressful situations, learning how to eat more healthily, and exercising will not only help you maintain your weight, but could lead to weight loss.

Stress can be caused by many different things. However, when it comes to the holidays, family, shopping, and meal preparation are the leading candidates of stress. To avoid becoming overly stressed out by these "big three", take it to God and ask Him to help you through each situation. If there are unresolved hurts from the past, ask God to help you forgive that person, and then enjoy them for who they are. Remember, none of us are perfect, and forgiveness can be the best medicine.

Weight loss is possible during the holidays if you continue to exercise, and avoid junk food if stressful situations do arise. Continued exercise will not only help you burn excess calories, but it will also help relieve stress. "Exercise can decrease 'stress hormones' like cortisol, and increase endorphins, your body's 'feel-good' chemicals, giving your mood a natural boost."[1] And we all know, when you do rigorous exercise, you burn calories, which can lead to weigh loss.

Another way to lose weight is to use TriVita's three step weight loss system, Leanology®. Leanology® shakes provide high quality proteins and Leanology nutritional chews contain specific fats to help turn off hunger signals and to help thwart cravings. Leanology weight loss capsules help reduce body weight and fat and are made with natural, stimulant-free ingredients including Converta™, The Fat Burning Accelerator.

A special weight-loss nutrient is Vitamin D. Most people would make enough Vitamin D with 20 minutes of sunshine morning and evening with 40% of their skin exposed to the sun's rays. Vitamin D also acts as a weight loss nutrient by balancing the blood sugar, reducing your appetite and improving human metabolism. This essential vitamin also improves your immune system.

People are exposed to less sunshine during the wintertime. This problem becomes worse the further north we go because of the shorter winter days in northern latitudes. Add the extra sun-blocking-layers of clothes to combat cold temperatures to the use of Vitamin D-blocking sunscreen and it is easy to see why people overeat, gain extra weight and even suffer seasonal illness because of a compromised immune system during the winter.

"To combat these very real circumstances that result in weight gain during the holidays we simply must take supplemental Vitamin D. Leanology® caps contain 750 IU of Vitamin D per six capsules. I suggest taking six capsules daily to supply a minimum level of Vitamin D during winter and to curb the appetite." [2]

20. Nutritional Supplements

There's a new multi-nutrient complex daily vitamin supplement that's more powerful than you average nutritional supplement.

According to TriVita's Chief Science Officer, "We need a multiple nutrient supplement every day to serve as a foundation for health and to combat the nutrient demands of a stressful life." And that's exactly why TriVita has created this new and more powerful nutritional supplement.

Below is information on Wellavoh™, the new super-nutritional supplement. The information is provided by TriVita's weekly health and wellness report.

How Nutrients Help Relieve Stress
Stress is defined as change that is seen by your body or mind as a threat - large or small, imaginary or real - or a change in your environment that triggers a rapid use of your reserves. Stress creates a demand on your resources. Soon, these resources become exhausted and you get sick.

Distress can come from your environment, your body or your mind. Rather than being just a single event, stress accumulates over time from all three sources. It strangles the joy and pleasure from your days and nights. It makes you miserable, and then it makes you sick. Once you are sick, stress keeps you from responding as well to medical care. Yes, stress is a killer!

Nutrients to the rescue
The opposite of stress is homeostasis. So, while stress is constantly trying to pull you apart, homeostasis is constantly working to put you back together. Homeostasis is the priority process your body uses to combat stress.

Vitamins, minerals and other nutrients are essential for homeostasis. If we have the nutrients we need at the moment we need them, we will thrive! Conversely, if we do not have the proper nutrient base in our system every day we will suffer loss of energy, poor mental performance and an increased risk for disease.

Supplements
The word supplement means an addition to something to make up for a deficiency. All supplements are an important addition to a healthy diet. They make up for the deficiency we face because of poor nutrient density in our foods. They also help out when we miss the mark of diet perfection.

Supplements are no substitute for good dietary choices. We simply must commit ourselves to eating a healthy diet. As you review your food choices for the past week, ask yourself, "Did I eat the right amount of fruits and vegetables every day?"

·         5 servings for children

·         7 servings for women

·         9 servings for men

If you can say "yes" - congratulations! If you are like most people you did not reach that goal. And, if you are like most of us, you did not eat all of your fruits and vegetables from an organic source; so, the fruits and vegetables may have been of low nutrient value.

We need a multiple nutrient supplement every day to serve as a foundation for health and to combat the nutrient demands of a stressful life.

A new supplement
Staying on top of our nutrient reserve is important. Our body makes millions of new cells every day - heart cells, brain cells, bone and blood cells. Stress kills millions of vulnerable cells every day. Every time a cell dies it should be replaced. If you do not have the right amount of nutrients to construct a new cell, you will either make an incomplete cell or none at all. The outcome is bad in either case; so, we really need to keep all nutrients on board at all times. This is why we created Sonoran Bloom™ Wellavoh™ (wel-lah voh), a new multi-nutrient complex for men and women.

The destructive forces of stress come from inside and outside your body. The nutrient complexes of Wellavoh can help you build a bulwark against stress as it tries to pull you apart. Wellavoh supports homeostasis as the innate wisdom of your body tries to keep you functioning at your peak.

One more reason...
Perhaps an even more important reason exists for maintaining a robust supply of nutrients in our system daily. According to a recent report, chemical switches on our DNA are activated by nutrients. If a single nutrient is missing at the critical moment it is needed, one of these chemical switches will fail. This results in a change in our DNA that promotes disease - for up to three generations of our children! So, it is vital that we and our children have our nutrients available every day to reduce the impact of stress while promoting vitality today, health tomorrow and a solid wellness foundation for generations to come!

21. Omega-3 Benefits

What benefits does fish oil offer our bodies? What is fish oil all about and what makes it good for us? You may have heard it on the news, or read it in a magazine, but how good is fish oil for you? These are a few questions I'll try to answer in this short little article.

All around the world, fish oil has received attention regarding its benefits to achieving a healthier lifestyle. Health expert and scientists have done many studies on omega-3 fatty acids (the key nutrient in fish oil). So what's in fish oil that makes it so beneficial to our bodies?

EPA is an omega 3 fatty acid. EPA, otherwise known as eicosapentaenoic acid, is mostly found in fish oil. According to the University of Maryland Health Center, "increased intake of EPA has beneficial effects on coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, and inflammatory disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis. Most people in the Western world do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids in their diet." [1]

Omega fatty acids can be obtained from eating fish like salmon, cod liver, herring, and mackerel, or by taking a supplement. The reason many people turn to omega-3 supplements is because consumption of certain fish can be toxic, especially when consumed in large amounts.

One supplement that I recommend is TriVita's Omega Prime. Omega Prime is created from the highest grade of fish oil, and uses only contaminant-free fish oil that has undergone a 10 stage distilling process. So, if what you've heard about fish contamination, do not fear. You can be assured that Omega Prime is free of all contamination.

TriVita's Omega Prime contains a "premier and unique blend of four different types of the most highly regarded Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) oils – Fish, Flaxseed, Evening Primrose and Perilla Seed."

The importance of omega-3 fatty acids as part of your diet are becoming more prevalent. More and more studies are beginning to surface, and diets, typical of modern America - ones high in omega-6 fatty acids and low in omega-3s - are linked to higher risks of cancer, diabetes, and immunity disorders.

But now you can help protect your body from these horrible diseases, by adding omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. You do not have to be a fish eater, or even enjoy fish to reap the benefits provided by omega-3. But, you should do something to introduce these very important EPAs into your diet.

I hope you've learned something about EPA, EFA, and omega-3. If you would like additional information on Omega Prime and any of the TriVita nutritional products, you can go to TriVita Products. TriVita ensures that you get the safest, freshest, and most effective products available on the market today. Each product is made under the strictest quality controls in the nutritional supplement industry.

22. Fighting Inflammation

Sonoran Bloom Nopalea is touted as one of the best inflammation fighters. However, most likely it's the toxins in your body that causes inflammation. Fighting inflammation and getting natural pain relief are plausible attributes; getting to the the root cause is of the utmost importance.

Every week, Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer, writes a health and wellness newsletter. This week is no different. In the newsletter, Mr. Minshew delves into the causes, triggers, and ways to fight inflammation. The newsletter is posted in its entirety.

Recently, a series of forest fires ravaged the landscape in Southern California. One particular fire burned many fine homes. The firefighters worked through the night to extinguish the fire and they were making progress. However, with the dawn came a change in circumstances: an increase in heat, a reduction in humidity and hot, dry winds from the south brought dry air and a fresh supply of oxygen that intensified the fire. Soon, a firestorm erupted creating flaming tornadoes.

That is the perfect illustration of the inflammation that can occur in the human body. What may begin as a single spark of inflammation may erupt into an inflammatory disease that engulfs our entire body and threatens our life. Efforts to combat the inflammation may be affected by external forces that fan the flames until we are consumed.

Causes of inflammation
There are four common causes of inflammation:

·         Trauma or injury

·         Toxins and poisons

·         Deficiencies of various kinds

·         Emotional distress

Any of these factors may trigger the start of inflammation or increase the intensity of the heat by adding fuel to the fire.

An example of this may be inflammation triggered by toxins and fueled by emotional distress. Gout is a form of inflammation strongly linked to toxicity. For example, gout may be triggered in susceptible people by environmental toxins like carbon tetrachloride or dietary toxins such as HCFS (high fructose corn syrup) found in soft drinks. Gout may also be triggered by depression associated with loss, or by anxiety associated with chronic emotional distress. A new round of gout may be triggered by simple trauma to a previously affected toe or possibly a Vitamin C deficiency.

Adding multiple sources of inflammation together may trigger a firestorm of inflammation that rages out of control - creating serious signs of disease.

Triggers: known and unknown

The firefighters mentioned above lost that particular battle with the forest fire because they could not foresee all of the influences hampering their efforts. The same is true with us:

·         We can not always foresee all of the inflammation triggers we face

·         We can not always tell when we trigger the process of inflammation

While we may remember our last soft drink, we may not know when we last breathed carbon tetrachloride, ate fruits and vegetables deficient in Vitamin C, or created micro-trauma by our sleeping position, sedentary lifestyle or choice of shoes. We may also not readily discern the impact of internalized stress.

I recently encountered three people who had different forms of inflammation. One individual suffered from episodes of gout, the second from chronic colitis and the third from osteoarthritis of the knees. They all experienced fast and profound benefits from Nopalea with its anti-inflammatory Betalains. They also later experienced a flare-up of symptoms when their life changed. In all three cases the inflammation appeared to be triggered by severe emotional upset: loss of a spouse, loss of a sibling and loss of a job.

Trying to quench the fire of inflammation created by these emotional extremes with a minimum serving of Nopalea was like trying to quench a forest fire with a single pail of water! We need to judge the severity of the inflammation and meet it with the appropriate anti-inflammatory response if we are to be successful. Don't be afraid to use 3 ounces or 6 ounces every day for a real "Betalain-Boost"!

Conclusion

When we experience any sign or symptom of distress we should interpret it as a communication from our body to our mind that something is wrong. The frequency, intensity and duration of the inflammation will determine how we should escalate our response.

As detectives we solve the mystery of pain by analyzing the four causes of inflammation. However, we must also realize that our ability to solve these puzzles is limited by our knowledge. The more we know about how we work, the greater the opportunity we have to discern the causes of inflammation, create an appropriate, strategic response and successfully put out the fire. I encourage you to listen to my audio book, "Body Systems 101" for an introduction to this concept. Call 1-800-991-7116 to find out how to get this audio book.

I hope you learned something about inflammation from Mr. Minshew. If not, my I suggest calling the number listed above and getting his audio book. He has been studying the causes of inflammation for some time, and he offers some great insight on the the number one medical issue most people face.

23. Nutritional Vitamin Supplements

Looking to start a home business? Now may be a good time to start one, especially if you want to get into the health and wellness industry. Consumers are purchasing more nutritional vitamin supplements than a year ago.

Even though we are faced with challenging economic times, 65% of adult consumers (up slightly from 64% in 2008) take dietary supplements, according to a new consumer survey conducted by Ipsos-Public Affairs for the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), Washington, D.C.

According to results from the 2009 CRN Consumer Survey on Dietary Supplements, the economy prompted 27 percent of dietary supplement consumers to alter their supplement purchasing habits. Among that group, purchasing habits changed in the following ways:

  • 59 percent (of the 27 percent) reported they are purchasing fewer supplements as a means to save money;
  • 31 percent (of the 27 percent) indicated they are now purchasing less expensive brands;
  • 26 percent (of the 27 percent) said they have been purchasing store brand supplements;
  • 23 percent (of the 27 percent) indicated they rely on coupons and other value-added promotions;
  • 22 percent (of the 27 percent) responded they only buy supplements when they are on sale;
  • 5 percent (of the 27 percent) responded they are purchasing more supplements to maintain health; and
  • 4 percent (of the 27 percent) responded they have stopped purchasing supplements because of the economy.

Supplement consumers indicated the three factors most important to them when purchasing supplements are: the price, the supplements facts box (i.e., dosage, daily value, etc.) and the label claims (maintain heart health, maintain joint health, etc.). The online survey also showed a slightly higher percentage of adults who label themselves as supplement users, with 65 percent classifying themselves as such.

In 2008, 64 percent of American adults identified themselves as supplement users. These numbers are also consistent with previous years' findings, as 68 percent and 66 percent of Americans identified themselves as supplement users in 2007 and 2006, respectively.

"We're pleased that consumers continue to place emphasis on their health, even in uncertain economic times, and that dietary supplements continue to play a role in their overall wellness regimen," said Judy Blatman, senior vice president, communications, CRN. "According to our survey, consumers, including supplement users, report to be taking necessary steps towards good health, such as trying to eat a balanced diet and getting regular exercise. We're encouraged that dietary supplements continue to be a part of that equation for many."

This is terrific news for anyone involved in the health and wellness industry, especialy for the people trying to build a successful home business. As more and more baby-boomers contiue to age, I believe that the numbers will continue to go up. Now is the time to get involved in the health and wellnes industry and start a home business.

TriVita is one nutritional company that offers a great business opportunity, with many patented nutritional products to choose from. They also promote their own products, which generates plenty of customers, which, in turn, are available to all affilates throguh their media acqusition program.

24. Vitamin D

I'm sure you've heard or read this many times, the human body naturally produces vitamin D through exposure to sunlight. Even with all the evidence pointing to these facts, why do so many Americans avoid the sun and take the chance of making insufficient amounts of vitamin d?

Some reasons may include computer games, fear and even laziness. I believe the media, along with the medical profession has given the sun a bad rap. Yes, it may cause cancer, and I'm not a doctor, but my feeling is it takes a lot more exposure to the sun than what's recommended to produce the vitamin d your body needs.

According to experts, "it takes about 30 minutes of exposure to strong (summer-strength) sunlight to avoid deficiency, and darker skinned people need more exposure than the lighter skinned do." This may explain why African-Americans, people of Middle-Eastern descent, some Hispanics, and other dark skinned people suffer higher rates of vitamin D deficiency.

I written on this subject before, but it's worth repeating. Most people who live in the northern states don’t get enough strong sunlight during the winter months. On the other side, those living in the southern states may not make sufficient vitamin D during the summer especially if they "over-avoid" the sun or use excessive amounts of sunscreen.

As more and more Americans continue to live their lives indoors, that is, with little or no exposure to strong sunlight for the 20 to 40 minutes a day, for light skinned people, or more, for darker skinned people, you will see an increase of cases of vitamin d deficiency. This sunlight exposure is very important to produce adequate blood levels of vitamin d.

No many foods contain a lot of vitamin d. However, tuna and salmon contain the highest amounts of vitamin d. Even milk, fortified with vitamin d, is not a great source of this all important vitamin.

As mentioned many times in my articles, I'm not a doctor, but I am a person that does research and reads a lot of medical articles. I'm also a health conscious person who promotes health and wellness products from TriVita. Before TriVita, it was Pharmanex, another great company with great products.

So, why the change you may ask? Two reasons, team support and religious belief. Yes, I had very little, if any, support from my team, and felt closer to people that had the same religious beliefs that I had.

Both TriVita and Pharmanex have terrific products, and they both do plenty of scientific research before releasing any product. I've been taking vitamin supplements and researching these supplements for almost ten years now. I can honestly say that I would rather play the odds, and take scientifically proven vitamin supplements, rather than adhere to the idea that they do not work. When it comes to scientific proof, or public opinion, I'll go with the proof.

One way that I found to avoid vitamin d deficiency, is to take TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, a supplement that is a combination of calcium and vitamin d. VitaCal-Mag D provides five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D.

Follow my lead, and do your research. Start taking supplements that have been scientifically proven, and then, spread the word.

You can learn all about vitamin supplements, and vitamin D by going to the TriVita Products website.

25. Cholesterol, CGD & Omega Prime

Omega 3 essential fatty acids help lower cholesterol and also help to protect the heart. Many studies have been conducted over the years regarding cholesterol and its relationship to coronary heart disease (CHD).

Some such studies include, The Framingham Heart Study, the Scandinavian Simvastatin Survival Study (4S) in 1994, West of Scotland Coronary Prevention Study (WOSCOPS) in 195, the CARE study in 1996, the Air Force/Texas Coronary Atherosclerosis Prevention Study (AFCAPS/TexCAPS) in 1998, the LIPID study in 1998, and the Heart Protection Study, which was published in 2002.

CHD and cholesterol studies continue on a daily basis. However, scientists have now found that "elevated cholesterol levels during midlife substantially increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease or vascular dementia."

An international team of researchers from Kaiser Permanente's Division of Research and the University of Kuopio in Finland analyzed 10,000 individuals over a period of 40 years. Their work suggests those with high cholesterol-defined as 240 milligrams or more per deciliter of blood-were at a 66 percent higher risk for developing Alzheimer's.

They also found that even those with slightly elevated cholesterol increased their risk by 52 percent.

"This is an early risk factor for dementia that can be modified and managed by lowering cholesterol through healthy lifestyle changes," says the study's senior author, Dr. Rachel Whitmer, adding that almost 100 million Americans have either high or borderline cholesterol levels. [1]

Health practitioners have recommended nutritional supplements containing fish oil, niacin and red yeast rice to help boost cardiovascular health.

There are a number of nutritional supplements that help lower cholesterol levels. With regular exercise, a proper diet, and nutritional supplements, you can help protect your heart and now, decrease our chances of developing Alzheimer's disease. TriVita's Omega Prime is one of those nutritional supplements. Omega Prime is a supplement that gives you the needed omega-3 fatty acids to maintain a healthy omega-3 balance, an important part to the development and protection of the heart.

TriVita's Omega Prime contains a premier and unique blend of four different types of the most highly regarded Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) oils – Fish, Flaxseed, Evening Primrose and Perilla Seed. It also uses only contaminant-free fish oil that has undergone a 10 stage distilling process.

Omega Prime helps meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.
